Brian White
Brian White has 20 years of excellent experience in community development work in various capacities, all of which specifically qualifies him as a great addition to the Housing PLUS Board of Directors.
He has firsthand knowledge of the good and bad in developing a 501c3 non-profit, having founded and Lakeside Community Development Corporation for 7 years.
Brian was Community Reinvestment Act Vice President at Charter One Bank.
He is also the recent past Executive Director of the Cook County Land Bank.
Presently, he is Principal Consultant of Communities by Design in Chicago.
Brian’s rolodex and insight has little overlap to those of the other board members.
He has expert knowledge of community development, community banking and lending, public policy, affordable housing and fair housing, multifamily housing development and finance, planning, and financial literacy.
Brian also has extensive relationships in Chicago area philanthropic, community, nonprofit, academic and public sectors.
Brian was named the first Executive Director of the Cook County Land Bank, the nation’s largest land bank, and stablished operations, created and executed program plans, recruited and hired staff, and exercised day-to-day management.
Reporting to the Land Bank’s Board of Directors, Brian developed internal policies and directed external outreach that resulted in partnerships with municipalities, developers, nonprofits and others to execute targeted redevelopment strategies to advance their respective community revitalization efforts.
At Charter One, Brian developed and implemented CRA strategy for the Chicago metro area, achieving and exceeding goals in mortgage lending, small business lending, community development services, community development lending, and voluntarism. He also served the Charter One state charitable contributions and state executive leadership teams.
In 2005, Brian was the founding Executive Director of the Lakeside Community Development Corporation in Chicago. This followed years of personal and professional development, also within the community development arena.
Brian has been a dear friend and ally to Housing Plus for 10 years, having been a charter member of the Advisory Board. In 2011, he contributed to the “Housing Plus presentation as National Housing Model” to the multi-family property-related executives of HUD in Washington DC, sponsored by Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky.
