John Mayes serves as the Executive Director of the National Alliance of Mental Illness, Illinois.
Prior to taking this role, John served from 2006 to 2019 as President and CEO of Trilogy, where he focused on developing community partnerships to help bridge funding and service gaps and ensure that barriers to primary and behavioral healthcare are reduced or eliminated for Trilogy’s clients on their path of recovery. Through these partnerships and diversified funding, Trilogy created a nationally recognized Integrated Healthcare program, a 365 days–a-year Peer-to-Peer Drop-In Center for clients and those who are without entitlements, on site targeted as well as routine HIV testing and counseling within the Drop-In Center, and an evidence-based Family Psycho-education Program. In November of 2012, under John’s leadership, Trilogy was named one of Chicago Tribune’s Top Workplaces.
John is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC). He is a former President of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill-Greater Chicago, and a U.S. Military Veteran – Viet Nam.
John forged a friendly working relation with Housing Plus President Marty Cerny dating to when Marty facilitated cluster housing opportunities for Trilogy clients.
John earned his Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
